Bilateral cooperation

Bilateral contacts have been made with several countries interested in developing scientific and technical cooperation with Algeria in the nuclear field.

These bilateral cooperation initiatives with partners such as Argentina, China, South Africa, the United States, Russia and France target projects to be undertaken within the framework of contracts, agreements and/or conventions, responding to precise national needs and in the respective fields of expertise of each partner. 

People’s Republic of China

2008: Signing in Algiers of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

2014: Signing of the Algeria-China Strategic Partnership Declaration.

2014: Signing of the 2014-2018 Five-Year Plan for Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation between Algeria and China.

Republic of Argentina

2008: Signing of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of development and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

United States of America

2007: Signature of a “Sister Laboratory” type Agreement (laboratory twinning) between COMENA and the US Department of Energy (DOE).

08 “Action Sheets” cooperation projects between COMENA and the US National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA/DOE) signed between October 2008 and March 2016.

France

2008: Signing of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

2014: Signing of a scientific and technical cooperation agreement between CEA and COMENA.

2016 : signing of an action plan covering:

Collaboration around the DOSEO radiotherapy platform and the VERT simulator.

Commitment to close cooperation between the Algerian Institute for Training in Nuclear Engineering (IAGN) and the National Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (INSTN)

2017: Signing of the ICERR (International Centers based on Research Reactors) Agreement between COMENA and CEA.

– Medical physics, Dosimetry, Environment, SMR, safety calculation codes, radiological emergencies, radioactive waste management and life sciences

Russian Federation

2014: signing and ratification of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy.

2016: signing of an agreement of understanding between COMENA and ROSATOM, on assistance to the Algerian side in the introduction of nuclear power.

South Africa 2010:

Signing of an Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy.

Kingdom of Belgium

2015: Signing of a COMENA-CEN.SCK Mol agreement, which sets out the general framework for bilateral cooperation in nuclear science and technology between the two institutions as well as in nuclear engineering education and training.

March 2020: signing of the ICERR contract (International Centre Designated by the IAEA Based on Research Reactors) between COMENA-CEN.SCK Mol.
