COMENA in Brief: Shaping Algeria’s Nuclear Horizon

Since its inception on December 1, 1996, through Presidential Decree No. 96-436, the Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA) has been at the forefront of Algeria’s nuclear advancement. As the nation’s premier institution for peaceful nuclear activities, COMENA is dedicated to harmonizing and advancing nuclear science and technology across Algeria. Our mission is clear: to guide Algeria towards a future where nuclear technology is a catalyst for progress and innovation, ensuring its safe and beneficial use across various sectors while aligning with government strategies for national development and prosperity.

COMENA is the instrument for designing and implementing the national policy for the promotion and development of nuclear energy and its applications: it is mandated to study and propose the elements of a national strategy in the field of atomic energy, in accordance with the policies, priorities and decisions adopted by the country’s government.
