





On Monday, September 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Nuclear Research Center of Algiers, the Atomic Energy Commissioner, Dr. Abdelhamid MELLAH, installed five (05) new scientific and technical committees of the Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA), governed by the provisions of the decree of December 6, 2009, establishing the powers, composition, and operating procedures of the specialized scientific and technical committees of the Atomic Energy Commission.
The areas of competence of the five (5) specialized scientific and technical committees of COMENA are as follows:
1. Nuclear materials and fuels;
2. Nuclear reactor physics and technology;
3. Nuclear and radiological safety;
4. Nuclear science and technology;
5. Energy systems.
In their respective areas of expertise, the specialized scientific and technical committees are responsible for:
- conducting discussions on the medium- and long-term prospects in the scientific and technological fields of activity of the Atomic Energy Commission;
- ensuring that programs are consistent with the missions of the Atomic Energy Commission;
- providing opinions and recommendations on the scientific and technological activities of the Atomic Energy Commission;
- evaluating, through periodic monitoring, the implementation of scientific research and technological development programs;
- proposing all measures and actions aimed at promoting the results of scientific research and technological development;
- to examine and issue opinions on the Atomic Energy Commission’s scientific and technological cooperation and/or partnership activities;
- to propose any training activities aimed at ensuring the transfer of knowledge and the development of new skill sets;
- to deal with any matter within their competence that is submitted to them by the Atomic Energy Commissioner.
