As part of the implementation of activities relating to the medical use of ionizing radiation in Algeria, particularly radiotherapy for cancer patients, activities set out in the roadmap adopted by the national authorities and developed by the intersectoral working group appointed by the Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, to “develop a roadmap for guiding investment in nuclear techniques and applications for medical use,” the Atomic Energy Commission organized a workshop on “Quality Assurance in Radiotherapy” on September 10, 2025.
The Atomic Energy Commissioner opened the workshop by reviewing the organizational framework, the tasks assigned to the intersectoral working group, and COMENA’s ongoing commitment to supporting and developing, as part of its mission, programs for human health, particularly those included in the national cancer control plan. He also reiterated that the ultimate goal of these programs, and of this specific national workshop in particular, is to place prevention and the quality of care (effectiveness, safety, security) provided to citizens and patients at the center of all concerns, in accordance with COMENA’s missions carried out in close collaboration with health services and in compliance with the provisions of the legislation and regulations in force. He concluded by stating, “We remain convinced that together, within a framework of effective and efficient intersectoral collaboration, and in accordance with our respective institutional missions, this objective will be achieved.”
This important meeting was attended by the President of the National Health Safety Agency, the Directors-General and senior officials of the Ministry of Health, the Rector of the University of health sciences of Algiers, 21 heads of radiotherapy departments (public and private) accompanied by their senior medical physicists, two national specialists based abroad, as well as executives and scientists from the National Health Security Agency and COMENA.
