





On Sunday, May 11, 2025, the secretary general of COMENA, Mr Tahar ZIDI, representing the Atomic energy commissioner, officially opened the regional technical meeting on integrated management systems for research reactors.
This meeting, organized in collaboration between the International atomic energy agency (IAEA) and the Atomic energy commission, through its two nuclear research centers of Draria and Birine, is part of the IAEA’s regional technical cooperation “RAF1011” aimed at strengthening research reactor safety, operation, and utilization, under the auspices of the African regional cooperative agreement for research, development and training related to nuclear science and technology (AFRA).
The meeting, hosted by the nuclear research center of Draria, will take place from May 11 to 15, 2025, and aims to share member countries experiences in implementing of the integrated management systems (IMS) in accordance with safety, security, quality, and environmental standards, with a view to strengthening the safety and security of research reactor operation and utilization.
This meeting is supervised by two IAEA experts, with the participation of representatives of research reactor operators from seven member countries (Algeria, South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
