Organization of the Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA)
The implementation of COMENA’s program is ensured by its operational entities focused on research, studies, and training:
Nuclear Research Center of Algiers (CRNA)
The CRNA is responsible for developing research programs in the fields of physics, nuclear technologies, nuclear applications, radiological physics, the environment, nuclear safety, and radioactive waste management.
Nuclear Research Center of Birine (CRNB), Djelfa
The CRNB is tasked with developing scientific and technical research programs in reactor physics and technology, instrumentation and control of nuclear facilities, radioisotope production techniques and processes, neutron applications, nuclear safety, environmental protection, and radioactive waste management.
It is also responsible for the safe operation of the Es-Salam reactor and associated facilities.
Nuclear Research Center of Draria (CRND), Algiers
The CRND is tasked with developing research programs in the valorization of materials used in nuclear fuel fabrication, physics, nuclear techniques, and nuclear engineering. It is also responsible for the safe operation of the NUR reactor.
Nuclear Research Center of Tamanrasset (CRNT)
The CRNT is responsible for conducting research and exploring raw materials needed for the development of nuclear energy.
Algerian Institute for Nuclear Engineering Training (IAGN), Algiers
The IAGN is responsible for providing specialized nuclear engineering training, particularly in the various areas of activity within COMENA.
Nuclear Safety Training and Support Center (CSN), Algiers
The CSN is tasked with implementing the training policy to develop highly qualified human resources in nuclear safety regulation and management, as well as providing scientific and technical support to authorities in designing and implementing national nuclear safety policies.
Research and Development Unit in Nuclear Engineering (URDIN), Algiers
The URDIN’s mission is to develop nuclear engineering tools and technological platforms, conduct nuclear equipment and facility engineering studies, oversee the construction of nuclear equipment and facilities, and promote research and development outputs.
